Historical claims
The statements that get made elsewhere as claims are set apart on this page — credit for founding, questions of precedence, dates and figures. Each carries three things: the form the claim takes in circulation, what the source actually says, and the document that would settle it.

This archive is maintained by his grandson, so the strictest rule applies here. Two of the six findings below cut against the family's case; they are on the page for that reason. About
Credit for founding the Sabha and the school
As it is told
He founded the school and the society single-handed.
What the sources say
The meeting of 13 June 1943 was held at his house, he had drafted the rules in advance, and fifteen people attended. But the booklet shows him within the institution as its secretary; the president was Chaudhary Jawan Singh of Binda. The land came from Chaudhary Bharat Singh and Shrimati Pirani Devi, and Chaudhary Deep Singh of Laksar's influence is recorded as instrumental in obtaining it.
What would settle it
The Sabha's original resolution book and registration papers, which would name the founding members and their offices. Note too that the booklet's account rests on Varma's own telling, so this description of credit comes from self-testimony rather than an independent record.

The "first" Gujar school at Rampur Maniharan
As it is told
The school that opened in 1943 was the district's first Gujar school.
What the sources say
The booklet itself counts two earlier attempts — the Saharanpur Gujar school of 1919 and the Rampur Maniharan primary school of June 1922, which collapsed in 1926. In that sequence the school of 1943 is the third attempt, and the first that lasted.
What would settle it
No document is needed — the distinction is present in the source itself. Recognition files for the earlier attempts would establish what level they reached. Note that the statue inscription also dates the beginning to 1 November 1943 and makes no mention of the earlier attempts.

The only Gujar student to matriculate in 1917
As it is told
He was the only Gujar student to pass high school that year.
What the sources say
The booklet says exactly this. By its preface the account was written from Varma's own telling, so the statement is at root self-remembered; no examination record is cited, and the scope of the count — district, board or province — is not defined.
What would settle it
The 1917 board result lists. Caste would not be recorded in them, so this claim is unlikely ever to be fully established; treating it as a belief held at the time is the more accurate course.

The year of birth — 1900 or 1897
As it is told
He was born in 1897, as the booklet gives it.
What the sources say
The two sources conflict. The lower plaque on the statue in the college grounds is carved "12 August 1900" — a permanent record made by the institution after his death. The booklet gives Jyeshtha badi doj, Samvat 1954, that is 1897, and that account rests on Varma's own telling. The difference is three years.
What would settle it
A birth register or a school admission record. In their absence this archive's rule applies: on questions of date the inscription decides, so 12 August 1900 is recorded and the booklet's year kept beside it. One consequence is that the school years 1910, 1915 and 1917 no longer sit correctly against the date of birth — that inconsistency is left standing, not corrected.

159 bighas 15 biswas of donated land
As it is told
The institution received 159 bighas 15 biswas of land in donation.
What the sources say
That is the printed total of the page 18 table, which reflects the position as at the registry of 21 September 1943. The subtotals within the table do not reconcile — the rows add to 159 bighas 13 biswas. The booklet goes on to say land kept arriving "until the degree college was built", so the figure is an early one, not a final total.
What would settle it
The Deoband registry and the khatauni for mauza Rampur and mauza Kishan Kheri, which would establish the area, the date, and the later donations separately.

Credit for the degree college
As it is told
He made the school into a degree college.
What the sources say
He sent the application for affiliation in 1958 and met the Vice-Chancellor, and permission for degree classes in agriculture came in July 1959 — he was principal at the time. The then president Chaudhary Jawan Singh accompanied him to that meeting, and the permission was granted to the Sabha, not to an individual. The statue inscription also says he raised the institution "to degree level" before retiring — but that is the institution's own statement about itself, not independent proof.
What would settle it
Agra University's correspondence and affiliation order, and the managing committee proceedings for those years.
The effort and the office are recorded; an institutional decision is not the same as personal credit

Where a source says "secretary", "headmaster" or "attempt", this page does not write "founder"; and where the only basis is a single later publication, a statement stays "recorded", not "established".
Both sources behind this page — the 1982 booklet and the statue inscription — are set out in full on the References page, and every conflict between them in the list of discrepancies. If a document turns up that refutes a claim, it will appear here too, and the relevant line will change on both the chronology and the biography. Nothing is deleted silently; the reason for a change is recorded.
